Martlets v MCC at Arundel
A frustrating day at the Castle as the weather deceived everyone! After the success of last years fixture which was a
reduced 30 over game due to rain the same forecast, if not worse, meant a similarly correct decision was made to get in a 30 over game before heavy rain was to hit as early as 2pm.We felt we were going to be lucky to get one innings in but instead the wind picked up and then the sun came out for the afternoon!
A strange day with the MCC umpire not present and a very late drop out (meaning the SM MM had to go out and field as a member) meant the SMs won the toss and batted. Brad Gaylor (62) and Adam Davies (73) batted more or less throughout to get us to 168-4. Sadly this was not nearly enough as the MCC polished it off with one wicket down in the 24th over with sun shining on……a full days play could have been had but nevertheless it was great to see so many people coming along to watch and we were very well looked after by James Rufey and his team as ever.
We look forward to another encounter next year that hopefully be a full days play!
