OXFORD DOWNS 227-5 dec (Watts 100no Walker 2-11)
MARTLETS 119-8 (Walker 47)
Day 2 and hung over we all engaged every phone based map we had and headed off to the wonderful Oxford Downs ground.
The cracks were already starting to show in our relatively thin touring squad and having turned up to watch I ended up scrambling onto the pitch as we bowled first. By that stage Willy already had the gloves on and was most impressive and pulled off a great stumping to dismiss Hook.
Downs were a class act and Watts was totally untroubled and classy for his 100. It was a very different story from the previous day. Paul Walker bowled nicely for his 2 wickets and Billing, Lack and McGahan chipped in with 1 each but Downs cruised to their declaration.
Anchored by Paul’s 47 we manfully held on for the draw 8 wickets down but in truth we were outclassed.
Great captaincy from Bush and a great performance from PW should be credited for the result.
Night 2 started in the fabulously named ‘Jude the Obscure’ in Jericho and ended with a curry. Perfect.
