Old Hurstjohnians 272 – 5, Mike Harrison 100*
Sussex Martlets 124 – 6, Mike Harrison 6 – 25
The Martlets assembled at Hurst for the 79th running of this fixture with the OJ’s.
The OJ’s won the toss and elected to bat first. The Martlets kept good control of the game bowling 39 overs to lunch with the OJ’s on 126 – 3.
The first ball after lunch by candidate Ed Lamb resulted in a wicket and to the crease arrived Mike Harrison armed with his new Newbury Krakatoa bat. Mike opened his account with a 4 driven over mid on and in total amassed a quick 100 not out including eights 4’s and eight 6’s one of which holed out the rear window of a Vauxhall Astra on College Lane. Mike was plainly the favoured Martlets son on the day, albeit playing illegitimately for the other side, having been dropped 5 times in the field! The Oj’s declared on 272 – 5 which was a slightly optimistic target for the Martlets to chase down.
In reply the Martlets made some progress but were pegged back by Mike Harrison who returned excellent figures of 6 – 25 off 9 overs. Nearing 6.00 pm with the Martlets on 124 – 6 the game was abandoned when rain set in
