Match Report
| The Sussex Martlet Golf Society held their annual Golf Day at Mannings Heath on 5th June.
After the usual superb lunch, Robert Reed paid tribute to the recently deceased Martlet, Robin Beckwith, who will be greatly missed. Once on the very well-presented course which played as well as it looked, the Martlet golfers benefitted from dry conditions which made for a well contested afternoon. The longest drive prize was snaffled by Stewart Tipper with a mighty effort on the thirteenth hole. From the same final grouping, Nigel Cook just squeezed his shot on the iconic Waterfall hole inside the previous challenger to claim the nearest the pin award. Third in the main standings came previous winner Richard Foster. Shading second place on countback from Richard was David Heine. However, it proved to be the case that the final trio on the course had cleaned up as, with an improbably steady effort, Gregory West won the Martlet Trophy with a strong return across the eighteen holes. The Honorary Secretary thanked Robert on behalf of those present for his superb organisation of this annual event. |
