Sussex Martlets 284 – 7, Mike Harrison 100*
Horsham 115, Patrick Goodwin 5 – 30
The Martlets lost the toss against Horsham CC and were invited to bat on the John Dew Ground as the main square was being prepared for the up coming County Week. Michael Krause scored a brisk 31 ball 55 opening the batting after a loss of a wicket on the first ball of the match. At 137 for 6 the Horsham captain would have felt his decision to field was a correct one until Mike Harrison came to the crease and scored a thunderous 40 ball century including 11 sixes and 6 fours. It was noted that it took him 23 balls to score the other 10 runs! He then hit a six to finish 100 not out to allow captain for the day Philip Ellwood declare at 284 for 7. In reply Horsham found life difficult due to an excellent spell of bowling from Patrick Goodwin who took 5 for 30 from 10 overs. Backed up by some good catching the bowlers applied consistent pressure and with Paul Lack also in the wickets Horsham were bowled out for 115 to give the Martlets a comprehensive win just minutes before the rain fell!
