After winning the toss on a flat, hard with key, Sussex Martlets decided to have a bowl. This decision was looking questionable after a quick 43 off no more than 20 balls by one of the Horsham openers. Of which one of the shots saw the new ball hit the roof of the clubhouse. Fortunately this was short lived and brought to the crease a more ‘traditional’ batting combination. Horsham continued to bat well through t out the innings and kept the scoreboard ticking over. Sussex Martlets were fielding were fielding a very young side (six juniors). Therefore , a mix of bowling was expected and pressure was hard to build. Horsham finished on an about par score of 243.
The Martlets started the run chase well with a solid opening partnership and a great batting performance from Udith (74) which was well supported from no3 by David (49). However, the longer the innings went on, the higher the run rate required. This brought more pressure onto the middle and lower order batsmen. The Martlets fell just a few runs short in the final over with Horsham requiring one wicket to bowl them out.
It was a great game played in great spirit.
