Match Report

DEGSY THE ONLY ONE DRIVING ON HORSHAM’S ROAD TO NOWHERE

First of all it turns out that the 40 club had forgotten they had a fixture so Paul Lack with a foot in both camps manfully stepped in and got a team together with a day or so to go. Thanks Lackie.

Taking advice that they might be ‘quite strong’ we agreed to bowl and did so pretty well with Ashers and Christmas starting us off. Ashers got rid of their no 1 for none before Bush took catch of the season one handed at first slip. Reactions of a Ninja to get rid of probably their best bat.

Dave Messenger playing his first game of the season bowled his seven overs of more than handy off spin but pick of the bowling was Jeremy McGahan with 2-36.

Degsy had arrived a little bit late. He did however manage to fit 4 overs in at the end.

40 club batted pretty well but the wicket was conducive to scoring as was the outfield as per usual at Horsham.

Unfortunately the result was then pretty much a certainty once we saw their opening bowlers get going. Apparently you don’t have to be over 40 to play for the 40 club. Nobody’s fault that and not a criticism (least of all of Lackie) but the one thing that usually does for us old blokes is real pace. Maybe their batsmen were better than ours and maybe they weren’t but if we had all faced the same attack it would have been close. It’s young guys bowling fast that tends to kill the game off especially when chasing a big total.

Dave Messenger played really nicely for his 24 and Degsy was in a class of his own for 46 but that wasn’t nearly enough.

Thrashed on a road this week but at least there’s Street to look forward to next….
