Flamingoes left with no leg to stand on!
Flamingo CC 211-8 (35 overs); Hogsveen 55 ret; D Christmas 5-41
Senior Martlets 213-3 (27.2 overs); J Hunt 54 ret, S Warrender 52 ret, N Bushell 53*
For some reason Horsham hosted Sussex 2s on the main ground whilst Martlets over 40s were on the John Dew Ground, probably the right size for over 40s games in truth! With the unavailability through work of the MM for the day, a tourist was borrowed to make an 11.
Flamingoes, aka Rood en Wit Veterans, on their Brexit Tour batted first and progressed steadily to 86-4 off 20 overs against the opening attack of Billing and Christmas with main scores coming from Hogsveen (55 retired) and Fuhri-Shetlage 49* . Pick of the bowlers were Christmas 5-41 and Lack 2-28 whilst Billing chipped in with the other wicket. Flamingoes finishing on 211 off 35 overs.
Opening up with Warrender (on 40+ debut) and the ever belligerent Hunt, this quickly looked to be too few runs and with both retiring and keeper Neil Bushell also hitting 53* the target was quickly reached with nearly 8 overs to spare. Other contributions coming from Evette Burton (11) and the borrowed Schoelvink (12).
After presentations and speeches the Dutch then journeyed into the bright lights of Horsham to paint the town Red (and White).
