Phoenix CC 174
Sussex Martlets 175 – 7 Tony Alexander 67
– Martlets won by 3 wickets A 40 over game was played against Phoenix’s Academy side organised by Alan McGinness in the beautiful surroundings of Phoenix Park. The Academy batted first and quickly demonstrated the depth of young talent available in Ireland with some assured performances. As might be expected at the beginning of a tour, the Martlets looked fresh and vigorous in the field and took wickets at regular intervals restricting our hosts to 174 all out with just 2 balls remaining in their allotted overs. Adam Scott and Mike Murray bowled particularly well taking 2 and 3 wickets respectively and they were well supported by Henry Cope and Mark Trubshaw. The Martlets made a positive reply with Tony Alexander (67) and Marcus Campopiano (27) who put on 99 for the first wicket. Support also came from Nick Seager, Stuart Ritchie and Frankie Ashworth who secured victory in the 32nd over with some lusty blows.
