Match Report
Played for the Grant Skinner Trophy
As has been the case since it was first played for, the Martlets have again been unable to prize the Trophy away from the CBGC Trophy Cabinet. Charles Tankard teased the Martlets by showing us the Trophy before returning it to the Cabinet for another year. It was a perfect day for golf on Sussex’s most elevated golf course, with the course in great condition and weather to match. The result was, a 2/4 loss, was widely felt to reflect the benefit of home advantage though this could not in itself explain the losses for James, Sam, Dion and John, all of whom are very familiar with the course! In the first match Nigel Cook and Ivan Newell had a very tough and competitive match with opponents who included a 0.8 handicapper (Alex) who went round in 1 over. We squeezed a win on the final hole, taking advantage of my shot. Charles Tankard was as always, a most generous and affable host, on his usual good form, but he informed me that this would be his final year match managing for CBGC. He will let know in due course who will replace him – difficult shoes to fill indeed! Nigel Cook : Match Manager |
