The weather was far kinder to us than last year and all pairings made it on to the golf course, however that was largely the highlight of the day. Playing fourball better ball, the match was lost 3 ½ to 2 ½, with the only win being one of the Cooden pairings. The Cooden pairings finished 1 – 1 and therefore, whichever way you look at it, a significant defeat was handed to the Martlets. The top match that involved Martlets captain Simon Bulteel and former captain of the match Mike Stewart, finished on the 13^th Green with a 6 and 5 defeat, the less said about the Captain’s performance the better. The second match featuring Mark Stevenson and Michael Richards, benefited from an inspired Michael Richards, who according to Mark played well below his handicap and secured the only genuine Martlets win, the third Martlets pair of Charlie Hartridge and incoming secretary Gregory West fought back valiantly from a significant deficit at the turn, but succumbed to a 2 down defeat on the final green. The final pairing of Ellis Batchellor and Graham Mackenzie fought to secure a half.
