On a sunny day at Hurstpierpoint College The Sussex Martlets, Junior Martlets, The Griffin and Old Hurst Johnians competed for the 20/20 title. A great day was had by all and some sparkling cricket played along the way.

In the semi-finals there were some excellent games. The Sussex Martlets fell agonsingly one run short of the Junior Martlet total in a cracking game that went to the last ball with six needed to win! Smashing innings from D. Smith and J. Maxwell put the Sussex Martlets within reach of winning after Andrew Hartridge and Felix Jordan had scored well in the first innings for the Juniors.
The Old Hurst Johnians successfully chased down The Griffin’s 147 after a very powerful and destructive 84 from L. Neil off around 50 balls including putting a ball through the pavilion window!
Sussex Martlet but OHJ for the day Mike Harrison scored 74 from 34 balls to help the OJ’s contest the final against the Junior Martlets.

In the 3rd/4th Playoff the Sussex Martlets score of 182 for 7 proved too many for the Griffin as the Sussex Martlets ran out winners.

The Old Hurst Johnians won the final beating the Junior Martlets by four wickets in low scoring encounter. It was the end of a the Old Boys Cricket Week at the College and so many players were in fine form including Dan Burstow who took 4 for 13 in his four overs. Unfortnately for the Junior Martlets they kept going the aerial route and finding the OJ fielders on the boundary. A score of 83 proved too few and the OJ’s won the 10 litre keg of Harvey’s Ale!

The formula for the day seemed to be very successful and one likely to be repeated. A fantastic lunch and tea split the day up nicely. It would be great to see more Martlet supporters pop in and and see the fireworks next year!
