From one week to the next, the weather never fails to amaze – blazing sunshine to continuous rain. Against this background, the Sussex Martlets assembled at Lancing College to play their annual fixture against the College 1st XI only to be thwarted by rain the day before and in the morning. Lunch taken early in the hope the ground would dry out was met with despondent looks after a 1pm pitch inspection and the game was called off. But all assembled admired the magnificent setting, listened intently to Cricket Master Raj’s description of the improvement to the square and longed for the game next year when hopefully we would be blessed with better weather.
