Spring Golf Matches.......
Below are short reports on each of the spring golf matches.
Golf fixtures resume in the autumn with matches at Piltdown, Littlehampton, Seaford, Cooden Beach and Rye. See the website, www.sussexmartlets.co.uk, or p11 of the Handbook for full details. These are all excellent courses and the hospitiality we receive is second to none. Please contact Ham Whitty or any of the match managers, they will be delighted to hear from you!
Crowborough 11 April. Despite fielding a good side the Martlets were soundly beaten by 9 matches to 3 overall. New member Simon Hester registered two wins, one in the morning with John Guess and in the afternoon with captain Grant Skinner. Other new member Robert Reed also played, but two late drop outs did nothing to help.
West Sussex 28 March. As ever a good turnout and wonderful day was enjoyed by all with sixteen foursomes being played plus, we were delighted to see, a friendly single after lunch between Sir G Taylor and Geoff Seaton. Good to see Robin Beckwith play his first match as a Martlet member and win with John Ashworth. West Sussex were the overall winners by 9 to 7
Hankley Common 18th April. One round and a cracking lunch was the order of the day and John Guess had put together a strong Martlet side which included another almost new member, Richard Foster. Each match was close but the Club side was too strong and won quite easily in the end.
Royal Ashdown Forest 24 April. A super day and a terrific match won by the Martlets against a strong Ashdown side 9 to 5. Double winners were Nigel Smith, David Scrivens who managed the Martlet side, Simon Morgan, Robert Reed and Brian Ellis. Thank you Ashdown for a great day much enjoyed by all.
Welcome to the Sussex Martlets
On behalf of all Members, the Committee would like to offer a warm welcome to 28 new Martlets.
If you want to know who they are and what they do, search for 'New Members' on the drop down list in the Members area.
Each one brings enormous talent and promise to our Club so ensure that they get on teams and give them the opportunity to show our opponents what they can do.
We welcome 25 new Playing Members and three new Golf Members. Do not hesitate to ask them to join your team and, if you are a new member, don't hesitate to ask the Match Managers for a game!
Please check your contact details and personal information are correct - if not please let the Secretary know so he can update them.
Good Luck for the 2010 Season!

A Martlets and Romany team.......
A combined Sussex Martlets and Romany team finished 5th out of 32 in the 2009 sixes.
Having won the first two matches comfortably we were seeded in the top cup group with the eventual winners from
Having lost Matt Walker and two Romany players just before departure our depleted squad punched well above its weight and we would have won one of the lower groups if we had not been seeded after the initial games. Tim Peters batted and bowled well and did not miss a match. Three of the Romany players have been guests for Martlets in the past and hopefully may go on to be members.
Next years festival will be between the 27th March and the 4th April and anyone interested should email Paul Lack as demand is always strong.
