Match Report

A very strong Martlets side assembled at Tonbridge School for the annual fixture against the Yellowhammers. The manager won the toss and elected to bat on the always batter friendly wicket on the Head. Leo Camish opened the batting with Walter Huchu and unfortunately Walter was dismissed by a beauty on the 7th ball of the day leaving the Martlets 0-1. Brad Evans and Leo then put on 84 for the second wicket before Brad was caught by a spectacular one handed over the head catch having reached 54 from 47 balls. Leo was then joined by Brad Taylor and they proceeded to put on a huge 223 run partnership! Leo scored a sparkling 143 with a powerful and better than a run a ball century from Brad who finished on 113 not out, possibly the largest partnership of the summer for the Martlets? Will certainly be a tough one to beat. Jano Moller faced just 6 balls for his 14 including the declaration inducing 6 which almost hit the main school building! The manager, feeling comfortable with 333-3 on the board, was able to call on a strong bowling attack as the Yellowhammers were 71-3 at tea. Jano Moller and Will Adkin bowled very well at the start with the spin team of Joe Pocklington, Mark Trubshaw, Jacob Smith, Robin Freen and Walter Huchu, all chipping in with wickets. Brad Evans bowled a strong spell at the death but the last two wickets did not fall with the Yellowhammers 209-8 at the close of play with a drawn result. With five dropped catches perhaps a winning result may have occurred sooner! My thanks to all those who played and a fourth year running a Martlets team scoring over 300!
