Match Report

Once again the weather stayed fair for this annual fixture with the Warwickshire Pilgrims.  Both sides needed to do some selection juggling due to last minute injuries and availability. At the 11th hour The Martlets were able to draft in Ben Twine and Jack Fletcher Price, both from Eastbourne College.

The Pilgrims won the toss and elected to bat, presumably rueing having stuck us in last year and losing .  Both Martin and Carter started briskly but early on Carter snicked off to Martyn.  Enter Robertshaw who with Martin carefully constructed a strong second wicket partnership,  Martin holed out to mid wicket boundary after another fine fifty and thereafter Pretorius and Robertshaw continued to pile on the runs, both ended with fifties ably supported by Ritchie, Fletcher-Price and Twine.

The Martlets concluded their innings on 232 off 40 overs – a challenging score for the Pilgrims.

The Martlets opened with candidate Dan James and the mercurial Ben Twine, both bowled extremely well with Twine picking up two early wickets and James unlucky not to also feature in the wickets.  The Pilgrims were making good progress with Tibble providing a solid foundation for their innings.  Simon Nicklin and Ollie Robertshaw continued with spin and successfully managed to contain the Pilgrims who were gradually falling behind the run rate . The final part of the innings was bowled out by the versatile Pretorius and the talented Twine who collected wickets of 3 and 5 respectively underling an excellent fielding display by the Martlets .

The Pilgrims concluded their 40 overs on 209 which was 23 runs short of their target – congratulations to Tibble on his century.
