BAND OF BROTHERS BATTED FIRST AND MADE 284 FOR SIX OFF 54 OVER’S. (203 MINS). NOT A PARTICULARLY QUICK OVER RATE BY MARTLETS.

OPENERS ALISTAIR MAVOR AND ALISTAIR BAIRD PUT ON 70 FOR THE FIRST WICKET OFF THE BOWLING OF MATT STONE AND JOE COX. FIRST CHANGE DARREN MCDONALD, IN HIS SECOND OVER DECEIVED MAVOR, WHO WAS COMFORTABLY CAUGHT BY ED MCGREGOR HAVING SCORED 40.

BAIRD WAS JOINED BY HIS CAPTAIN TOM BRUCE AND TOGETHER THEY ADDED 50 OFF THE BOWLING OF MCDONALD , ANDREW CANTRELL AND DANIEL SMITH BEFORE BAIRD WAS RUN OUT ALSO FOR 40. LUNCH WAS TAKEN AT 123 FOR TWO ( 30 OVERS).

TOM BRUCE WHO HAD LOOKED PATIENT AND OMINOUSLY COMFORTABLE PRIOR TO LUNCH ADDED 98 IN AN HOUR FOR THE THIRD WICKET WITH HIS BROTHER WILLIAM (43), OFF THE BOWLING OF PAUL LACK AND SMITH. BEFORE CANTRELL WHO HAD RETURNED FOR HIS FIRST OVER SINCE LUNCH DECEIVED WILLIAM BRUCE INTO OFFERING MCGREGOR HIS SECOND CATCH OF THE INNINGS. (218-3)

TOM BRUCE WHOSE CONFIDENCE HAD BEEN GROWING AS THE INNINGS PROCEEDED THEN LAUNCHED INTO THE BOWLING OF CANTRELL, LACK AND ROB HOUGH. BRUCE LOST THREE FURTHER PARTNERS AS BAND OF BROTHERS ADDED A FURTHER 68 FROM THE FINAL 8 OVER’S BEFORE DECLARING AT 284-6 OFF 54 OVER’S TOM BRUCE REMAINED UNBEATEN ON 128 WITH 3 X 6 AND 13 X 4.

ROB HOUGH WAS MARLETS MOST SUCCESSFUL BOWLER WITH 2 – 45 FROM 5 OVER’S.

IN THE 50 MINUTES BATTING PRIOR TO TEA MARTLETS OPENERS, ED MCGREGOR AND DEREK HORSHAM ADDED 71 FROM 15 OVERS. LEFT WITH A FURTHER 25 MINUTES PLUS THE FINAL HOUR, MARTLETS TASK OF SCORING A FURTHER 214 LOOKED FORMIDABLE.

TO THEIR CREDIT THE BAND OF BROTHERS SPINNING ATTACK OF BAIRD AND WILLIAM BRUCE HURRIED THROUGH 9 OVERS PRIOR TO THE FINAL HOUR.

BUT WITH BOTH OPENERS DISMISSED PRIOR TO THE FINAL HOUR, MCGREGOR IN THE FIRST OVER AFTER TEA FOR A WELL MADE 51 ( 10 X 4) AND HORSHAM 50 (9 X 4), MARTLETS WERE 110-2 STILL NEEDING 175 TO WIN IN A MINIMUM OF 20 OVERS.

GEORGE HOLMAN (42) WITH DANIEL SMITH ADDED 92 IN 14 OVERS 202-3, WHICH BECAME 206-4 WHEN SMITH (58) WAS BOWLED ONE OVER LATER.

WICKET KEEPRER ADAM DAVIS WAS JOINED BY ROB HOUGH WITH AN UNLIKELY 79 REQUIRED FROM THE FINAL FIVE OVERS. THEY PLUNDERED A FURTHER 53 RUNS BUT BOTH PESRISHED AS MARTLETS FINISHED ON 259 -6, TWENTY SIX SHORT OF THEIR TARGET HAVING RECEIVED TEN OVERS LESS THAN THEIR OPPONENTS.

IN THOSE FINAL 5 OVERS HOUGH (11) WAS RUN OUT AND DAVIS (39) WHICH INCLUDED 7 X 4 FROM 28 BALLS, WAS BOWLED OFF THE FINAL BALOF THE INNINGS.
