Martlets won the toss and batted, reaching 221 – 8 from 39.4 overs. Sam Carter (31) and Mike Murray (75) shared a 1st wicket stand of exactly 100 before Nick Seager scored a characteristically quickfire 64 from 53 balls. St. James’s South African, Ashley Wallace took 4 for 28.
St. James’s Montefiore then raced to 227 – 5 from 33.4 overs. Despite a tight spell from Rupert Thacker and a hostile one from Zubin Bhettay, St. James’s reached their target with contributions of 39 from George Martin and 48 from Ashley Wallace. England under-16 ‘keeper Adam Davies hit 46 from 28 balls and Sussex under-16 George Taylor smashed 38 off 16 balls to see St. James’s home with two overs to spare.
